James “Jimmy” Hodges

Mr. James Byron “Jimmy” Hodges, age 58, a resident of 735 Latham Street, Belhaven, passed Wednesday May 23, 2007, at his home.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2007, at the First Christian Church in Belhaven, conducted by the Rev. Michael Isbell and the Rev. Raleigh Castelloe. Burial will follow in Belhaven Community Cemetery.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Terry Sparrow, Doug Clark, Doug Barnes, Georgie Baker, Jimmy Coltrain, Johnny Pinner, Jake Hodges and Doug Bright. The following will serve as honorary pallbearers: Laura Ann Baker, Olivia Baker, Leann Dixon, Carol Clark, Deb Sparrow and Myra Pinner.
Mr. Hodges was born in Washington, NC on November 4, 1948. He was the son of James Willis Hodges and Sibyl Askew Hodges, both of whom survive. Mr. Hodges was a 1967 graduate of John A. Wilkinson High School and graduated from the College of the Albemarle and attended Atlantic Christian College. He was an Administrative Officer II at the Hyde Correctional Institute in Fairfield.
Mr. Hodges was very active in this community. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Belhaven and the Belhaven-Pantego Rotary Club for 30 years where he had served as president and was currently the secretary-treasurer. Mr. Hodges served on the Belhaven Town Board 23 1/2 years. He served on the Pungo District Hospital Junior Hospital Board for four years. Mr. Hodges was president of the Belhaven Elementary School PTO for five years. He was a member of the Northside High School Athletic Boosters, serving as president for one year. Currently Mr. Hodges was serving on the Beaufort County A.B.C. Board, a post he has held for 12 years.
On January 23, 1972, Mr. Hodges married the former Elizabeth “Libby” Castelloe, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are his parents, James and Sibyl Hodges of Belhaven; his son: James “Brandon” Hodges and his wife, Shannon of Mebane; his grandchildren: “Kayla” Leslie Hodges and “Jayce” Byron Hodges; his sister: Mary Jo Allen and her husband, Bonner of Pantego; three nephews: Anthony, Raymond and Michael Allen all of Pantego; sister-in-law: Caroline Rouse of LaGrange, NC; brother-in-law: the Rev. Raleigh Castelloe and his wife, Phyllis of Dallas, NC; niece: Karen Denton and her husband, Blair and nephews: Buster Castelloe and his wife, Brenna and Andy Castelloe and his wife, Julie.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven and other times at his home located at 735 Latham Street, Belhaven.
