HAVELOCK — Hyman “L” Smith, Jr., 81, of Havelock, died May 30, 2007 at Craven Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Havelock. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from civil service.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian W. Smith of Havelock; one son, Sheldon L. Smith and wife Holly of Beaufort; one daughter, Gwen S. Holt and husband Bob of Havelock; five brothers, Al Smith of California, Dallas Smith of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Samuel Smith of Washington, N.C.; Mickey Smith of Halifax, N.C., Jerry Smith of Maysville, N.C.; six sisters, Edna Ewing of Fayetteville, N.C., Doris Sparrow of Salter Path, N.C., Nellie Williams of Arizona, Glenda Crousore of Indiana, Mable Howell of Cary, N.C., Janet Facinto of Connecticut; seven grandchildren, Justin, Kimberly, Brandon, Casey, Melissa, Danny and Staci and three great-grandchildren, Danny, III, Jackson and Jillian.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Cotten Chapel with Dr. Donald Hadley officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
