Mr. Harvey Clifford Bowen, 82, of 416 U.S. Highway 13 North, Windsor, died Monday, June 11, 2007, at Bertie Memorial Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Edgewood Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.
Mr. Bowen was born in Washington County on March 28, 1925. He was the son of the late Henry and Sarah Spruill Bowen. He served in the Army during World War II. He was wounded while serving in the Philippines and received the Purple Heart. He was married to Hazel Dunlow Bowen, who survives. He was a retired farmer. He was a founding member and deacon of Edgewood Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, William C. “Bill” Bowen of Greenville, Jim Bowen of Hartsville, S.C., and David Bowen of Windsor; one sister, Ethel Browning of Plymouth; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, and other times at the home of his son, David Bowen, 905 Stokes Ave., Windsor.
