Mr. William Preston Godley Sr., 85, of 957 Smithtown Road, Grimesland, died Friday, June 15, 2007, at his home.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pamlico Memorial Gardens with pastor Stanley Jones officiating.
Mr. Godley was born in Beaufort County on Nov. 10, 1921. He was the son of the late Jesse and Alice Virginia Buck Godley. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a drink salesman for Roberson’s Beverage and Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for many years. On Oct. 12, 1946, he married Fannie Mae Taylor, who preceded him in death on June 6, 1995.
Survivors include two sons, William Preston Godley Jr. and Ricky Allen Godley, both of Grimesland; one daughter, Barbara Godley Cole of Chocowinity; one brother, Lindsey Ward Godley of Greenville; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the Vineyard Community Church on N.C. Highway 33 East in Chocowinity and other times at the home of his grandson, Toby Cole, 595 Norman Road, Blounts Creek, NC 27814.
