Doris Virginia Gurganus Smith, age 69, of 7569 Cherry Run Rd., Washington died Sunday June 24, 2007 at Britthaven of Washington.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday June 27, 2007 at Oakdale Cemetery and will be conducted by Rev. Clifford Ball.
Mrs. Smith was born in Martin County on November 13, 1937 to the late William and Allie Rawls Gurganus and on June 27, 1955 she married John (Jay) Smith who preceded her in death on November 23, 2001. She attended Bear Grass High School, in 1999 she retired from Hamilton Beach in Washington and she was a member of the Piney Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church of Beaufort Co.
Survivors include one daughter, Debbie S. Kirk and her husband Oral; four sons, Johnnie E. Smith of Washington, Frankie Ray Smith and his wife Diane of Washington, Randy Wayne Smith and his wife Patricia of Washington, Danny Lewis Smith and his wife Patty of Washington; one brother, Dallas Gurganus of Gold Point; one sister, Rosa Hoell of Greenville; four grandchildren, nine step grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lora May Smith and one brother, Jack Gurganus.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday June 27, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home of Mrs. Smith’s daughter Debbie Kirk, 2623 Horse Pen Swamp Rd., Washington.
