Mr. William Earl Mills, Sr., 70, resident of 326 Gray Road, Chocowinity, transitioned from this life Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday 3 p.m. at The Temple of Jesus Christ United Church with Dr. Alonza St. Clair and Dr. Catherine St. Clair officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
A native of Ayden, Mr. Mills was born in Pitt County on Oct. 5, 1936 to the late Fernando Mills and Alice Corey Mills.
William was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Rose Linwood, Fernando, Alton (Cal), and Robert Mills, and his only sister, Verna Lee Ellison.
Earl was an active member of the Chocowinity community volunteering as a member of the local American Red Cross Society and serving as a board member. He was a member of St. James CME Church where he served as trustee and a member of the steward board. He retired from Dupont in 1996 after 32 plus years.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita St. Clair Mills; two sons, William E. Mills, Jr. (Sandra) of Central Islip, N.Y., Keith St. Clair Mills of Raleigh; one daughter, Alice Mills-Henderson (Anthony) of Raleigh; one grandson, Anthony Jordan King of Washington; three brothers, Nasby Jay Mills (Elaine) of Salisbury, N.C., James Frank Mills (Annie) of Grifton, Marion Grey Mills (Verlene) of New Haven, CT; three brothers-in-law, Elmo St. Clair, Alonzo Chapman St. Clair and Hugh Albritton; one sister-in-law, Annie Albritton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
The St. James CME Church will host a walk-in visitation Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. other times at the home.
