Mr. Herman L. Cabarrus Sr., 73, of 541 Spruill Town Road, Creswell, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Washington County Hospital in Plymouth.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Bishop Robert D. Ross officiating. A committal service will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Cabarrus was born in Washington County on Nov. 28, 1933. He was the son of the late James D. Cabarrus and Lelia Leigh Cabarrus. He was a machine operator at Weyerhaeuser Co. On May 8, 1957, he married Mary Nixon Cabarrus, who survives. He was a member of St. Mary Church of Christ and served as a deacon and trustee of the church.
Survivors include three daughters, Gloria Alexander of Creswell, Eileen Simpson of Roper and Tracey Cabarrus of Charlotte; four sons, Herman Cabarrus Jr. of Creswell, Stacey Cabarrus of Jamesville, Kenneth Cabarrus of Wiesbaden, Germany, and Anthony Cabarrus of Creswell; an adopted son, Larry Spencer of Creswell; one sister, Mariah Cabarrus of Norfolk, Va.; 23 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Three grandchildren and one great-grandchild preceded him in death.
The family will receive visitors tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. at Puckett-Purkett Memorial Chapel in Roper.
