Mary Lorene Stiles
Mrs. Mary Lorene Harris Stiles, age 94 a resident of 378 Hunter Drive, Belhaven and a former resident of Washington died Monday July 9, 2007 at the Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven, NC.
A graveside funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday July 12, 2007 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Rev. David Pooser. Pallbearers will be James Ormond, Michael Ormond, Gregory Clayton, Mark Biddix, Chris Clayton and Stephen Poole, III.
Mrs. Stiles was born in Willard, MO on October 18, 1912 daughter of the late Oscar Vance Harris and the late Mida Elizabeth Craig Harris. She was a 1931 graduate of Springfield High School and continued her education and earned her teaching degree. She taught school for a short period before dedicating her time as a homemaker. In later years Mrs. Stiles worked in Washington at the WRRF Radio Station and as a copy editor at WITN TV. She demonstrated her strong family dedication by raising her grandchildren as if they were her own. Mrs. Stiles was a member of Sidney Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include three grandchildren: James Allen Stiles, Connie Lorene Stiles Ormond and Cathey Stiles Clayton and five great grandchildren: James Walter Ormond, Michael Henry Ormond, Michelle Lorene Ormond, Ashley Elizabeth Clayton and Hunter Jordan Clayton. Mrs. Stiles was preceded in death by a son: Walter Stiles, III on September 25, 1992 and a sister Grace Rebecca Williams.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday July 11, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home of Mrs. Stiles’ granddaughter Mrs. Robert “Cathey” Clayton located at 378 Hunter Drive, Belhaven.
