William L. Deal

William Linwood Deal was called to be with his Lord July 20th 2007. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was proceeded in death by his father, Walter Deal, his Mother Mildred Deal Lupton, and stepfather Amy Lupton.
William is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joy Collett Deal, Their daughter Vickie Deal of Newport, N.C. Donna Levi and husband Daniel of Lyles, Tenn. Lori Metzner and husband Shane of Clayton, N.C., Five granddaughters, Katie Carr, Mandy Carr, Nastassha Metzner, Vanessa Beedie, Natasha Deal Purdin, one grandson Walt Hall, two great grandsons, Mason and Aiden Beedie and his loving in-laws Herbert and Hazel Collett of Andrews, N.C.
William was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the Korean War. He was a member of the Doric Lodge of Free Masons in New Bern, N.C., a member of the Arapahoe United Methodist Church, and a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans Association.
He worked in construction to support his family, but he would really have loved to be a commercial fisherman. After retirement he took up woodwork as a hobby, and many of his friends and family were the recipients of some of his beautiful work.
He was a joy to all who knew him. Always willing to go the extra mile to help anyone in need. He will be especially missed for his wonderful dry humor, love of family and friends, and pride in his country.
Visitation will be at the Arapahoe United Methodist Church July 22, 2007 at 1:30-3 p.m., Followed by the memorial service at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Penny Dollar Farmer officiating. Later interment will be at the Jacksonville Veteran Cemetery. Other visitations will be at the family home at 381 Indian Bluff Dr. Arapahoe, N.C.
