Washington 10U All-Star softball team takes third

HENDERSONVILLE — The Washington 10U All-Star softball team came home from the 2007 Southeast Regional Babe Ruth Tournament with an impressive third-place finish.
Washington just missed out on playing for the championship, falling to Henderson County on Sunday morning in an elimination game.
Washington opened tournament play with a win over Ocee Park, Ga., on Thursday. The All-Stars followed that up with a 6-0 blanking of New Kent, Va., later on Thursday.
The All-Stars slipped into the losers bracket after falling 4-0 Mauldin, S.C., on Friday.
Washington rebounded Saturday morning with an 8-4 victory over Altamonte Springs, Fla., in an elimination game. The local All-Stars then defeated Wilson County, 2-1, in another elimination game Saturday afternoon.
Washington’s run came to an end with the loss to Henderson County.
16U All-Stars eliminated
The Washington 16U All-Stars were eliminated from the tournament with a 5-1 loss to Glen Allen, Va., on Saturday afternoon.
Washington had beaten Cashie, 6-2, in an elimination game earlier Saturday.
The local All-Stars opened tournament play Thursday morning with a 10-0 win over Madison. However, the team was sent to the losers bracket after dropping a 1-0 decision to Altamonte Springs, Fla., Thursday afternoon.
BASEBALL
West Raleigh was crowned champions of the ENC State Cal Ripken 10-Year-Old Tournament, which was held at the Susiegray McConnell Sports Complex.
West Raleigh won the championship with a 7-4 win over Wayne County on Sunday afternoon. West Raleigh went undefeated in tournament play.
Washington lost both of its games, falling 25-10 to Winter Park Optimist and 7-5 to Wayne County.
15U team loses twice
HAVELOCK — The Washington 15U All-Star baseball team lost both of its games in the ENC State Babe Ruth Tournament.
The All-Stars opened with a 5-0 loss to Borderbelt-Lumberton in the first round on Thursday.
Washington then suffered a 13-3 setback to ElCiPaCa in an elimination game Saturday.
8U baseball team ousted
NEW BERN — The Washington 8U All-Star baseball team lost twice in the ENC State Babe Ruth Tournament.
Washington fell 11-0 to Wilson County on Wednesday and then was eliminated after a 13-6 loss Thursday to East Chatham.
