Mr. Warren Whitaker, 71, of 590 Maple Town Lane, Swan Quarter, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Cross Creek Health Care Center, Swan Quarter.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Old Richmond Missionary Baptist Church, Swan Quarter, with the Rev. Reginald Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Swan Quarter.
Mr. Whitaker was born in Hyde County on Nov. 12, 1935. He was the son of the late Ethel Murray Barrow Whitaker and George Wallace Whitaker. He attended the Hyde County Schools. On March 27, 1954, he married Ethel Fonville Whitaker, who survives. His employment was with Siam Logging Co. and also Cherry Farms. He was a member of New Branch Masonic Lodge No. 785 PHA, Hyde County. He was first a member of St. Lydia Missionary Baptist Church, Swan Quarter. He later became a member of Old Richmond Missionary Baptist Church, Swan Quarter.
Survivors include four daughters, Wilma Brown of Waverly, Va., Bessie McCullor and Turecca Howard, both of Swan Quarter, and Becky Smith of Durham; two sons, Gary Whitaker of Durham, and Warren Whitaker III of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters; two adopted daughters, Natasha Whitaker and Ruby Selby; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends at the home.
