Mr. Louis A. Best Sr., 87, of Tarboro, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at Heritage Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Carlisle Funeral Home, Tarboro, with the Rev. Eric Crowe officiating. Burial will follow in Edgecombe Memorial Park. Mr. Best’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers and the Men’s Breakfast Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Best was born in Edgecombe County, the son of the late Albert P. and Lelia Rae Marsh Best. He served in the Army during World War II, serving in central Europe. He received two bronze service stars, good conduct medals and victory medals during his Army service. He was married to Henrietta D. Best, who survives. He was a retired farmer and a Mason. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Tarboro.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Viverette of Enfield, Marsha Rae Long of Belhaven, and Donna Holland of Tarboro; two sons, L.A. Best Jr. of Rocky Mount, and Nelson Denny Best of Tarboro; one brother, Norman M. Best of Temperance Hall; one sister, Edna Howell of Tarboro; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Little.

The family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, Tarboro, and other times at the home of his son, Nelson Denny Best, 2101 U.S. Hwy. 258 South, Tarboro.
