CHOCOWINITY, NORTH CAROLINA — The Rev. John (Jack) Ecklin Taylor, 82, passed away peacefully Monday, August 20, 2007. He will dearly be missed by his family who cherish the many blessings he shared over his lifetime. He was the son of the late Plummer Alston Taylor and Blanche Dudley Worsley and was the brother of Mary Dudley Elks of Greensboro, NC and the late Plummer Alston Taylor, Jr., formerly of Morehead City, NC.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Ogburn Taylor. Father Taylor is survived by his daughter, Carol Marie Taylor, of Greenville, NC and his son, John Mark Taylor and daughter-in-law, Laura, of Waynesville, NC.
Father Taylor was a retired Episcopal priest serving 50 years of ministry. He was a World War II U.S Army veteran who served with the 13th Airborne Company and 218th Military Police Company. He also served as Chaplain for the Association of Civil Air Patrols in NC and SC.
Father Taylor served as Rector of the following parishes: Christ Church, Hope Mills, NC and St. Phillips and Church of the Good Shepherd, Fayetteville; Grace Church, Plymouth, NC and St. Luke’s, Roper, NC; Grace Church in the Mountains, Waynesville, NC; Holy Trinity, Charleston, SC; Church of the Holy Cross, Stateburg, SC; Church of the Advent, Marion, SC. He retired back to his home parish, Trinity, Chocowinity and continued his ministry serving in a number of parishes in the Diocese of East Carolina.
He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He received his Master of Divinity, from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee. He was editor of the Mission Herald, Diocese of East Carolina and Dean of the Waynesville Deanery in NC. He served as an Associate Chaplain for the Charleston area hospitals.
Father Taylor was known for his humor, calm and reassuring manner. He was a committed husband to his wife of 51 years and his children, family and friends. His life exemplified a deep faith and call to serve God’s people.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Chocowinity, NC on Saturday, August 25th, 11 a.m. The Rt. Rev. Clifton Daniel, 3rd , Bishop of the Diocese of East Carolina and The Rev. J.M. Browne, III, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church will officiate. The interment will be held at a later date at Grace Church in the Mountains, Waynesville, NC.

Cotton Funeral Home of New Bern, NC is in charge of arrangements. A reception for family and friends will follow the memorial service at Trinity Church.
