Dr. Beatrice Marie (Seal) Simmons

Dr. Beatrice Marie (Seal) Simmons, 81, of 105 Riley Place, Washington went to live with Her Father and Christ on Saturday, August 25, 2007 from Britthaven of Washington where she lived out her Alzheimer’s last few weeks.
A memorial service will be held where she attended at the First Presbyterian Church in Washington on Sunday, August 26, 2007 at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Darryl Evans.
Dr. Simmons was born in Champion, Ohio on May 29, 1926, was on the honor role of the public schools in the area throughout her early years, and married Kenneth F. Seal on October 6, 1945, who was production Manager of Burroughs Wellcome Pharmaceutical Company. The Seals moved to Washington when the company moved from Tuckahoe, NY to Greenville, NC.
Bea was ordained in the Methodist Church following graduation at the Biblical Seminary of New York City. In Washington, she was engaged in many activities, including the Beaufort County Arts Council, the American Red Cross, the Guardian ad Litem program, the Mattamuskeet Foundation, and the local Interchurch Forum. Many have seen her Christmas tree each year decorated with Russian dolls and ornaments, for she went to Russia fourteen times since 1992 and collected hundreds of beautiful examples.
After Ken Seal died in 1995, she married Dr. Harold Simmons in 1997, whom she had met in the 1940’s in Winchester County, NY. She is survived by her present husband, Dr. Harold C. Simmons of Washington and a brother, Robert A. Heald of Chardon, OH. Predeceasing her were her parents, two sisters, two brothers, her first husband, and two step-sons.
Her ashes will be interred with those of her former husband, Dr. Seal, in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Memorial Fund of The First Presbyterian Church, 211 W. 2nd Street, Washington, N.C. 27889.
