Mr. Edward Freeman Swain, 80, of Plymouth, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Hagwood officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Swain was born in Washington County on July 24, 1927. He was the son of the late Paul Thomas and Vida Midgett Swain. He was an Army veteran. He was married to Jacqueline S. Swain, who survives. He retired after 42 years as a rural and city mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Boy Scout leader. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Edward F. Swain Jr. of Winston-Salem; five sisters, Evelyn S. Gay of Thomasville, Ga., Paula S. Bass of Spring Hope, Jane S. Everton of Virginia Beach, Va., Lorna S. Sheppard of Belhaven, and Lois S. Smith of Ahoskie and four brothers, Walton E. Swain of Washington, Lee T. Swain of Plymouth, Ernest M. Swain of Zachary, La., and Michael S. Swain of King Salmon, Ark.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Sonya S. Hardison and one brother, John D. Swain.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7-9 p.m. at First Baptist Church and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Service, Creswell.
