Mrs. Mattie Agnes Edwards, age 95, of 5288 Sidney Road, Belhaven, died Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at her home.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2007, at Sidney Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery and will be conducted by Pastor David Pooser.
Mrs. Edwards was born May 24, 1912, in Andrews, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Lonnie P. Rogers and the late Alice Cleveland Rogers. On February 1, 1935, she married John Frank Edwards who preceded her in death on March 29, 1996. She was a cherished, highly esteemed member of Sidney Free Will Baptist Church and beloved resident of the Sidney community for more than 65 years.
Survivors include one son, Billy Edwards of Winterville, NC; and a daughter, Margaret Edwards B. Gill of the home. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren: Robert Batey, Debra Crum, Patricia Knight, John Batey and Jessica Gill; 4 great grandchildren: Tanya Shamburger, Michelle George, Jason Knight and Shanon Knight; 7 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Dot Beard of Jacksonville, FL, Vera Mae Boyde and husband Bill Clemson, SC; and Ettra Vee Moskow and husband Herb of Denmark, SC; 1 sister-in-law, Nan Rogers; 2 brothers-in-law: Jack Newton and Benjamin Blake; nieces and nephews and an Ex-Son-in-law, Bill Batey.
Along with her husband and parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Pergeous Rogers and Alton Rogers; 2 sisters, Ethel Newton and Frances Blake; and one sister-in-law, Frances Rogers.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven.
