Mr. Tommie “Thomas” F. Nixon, 68, of 1079 Woodlawn Road, Roper, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at Plumblee Nursing Center, Plymouth.
A funeral will be conducted today at 1 p.m. in Bethel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Roper, with Elder Benny Mackey officiating. Burial will follow in T.F. Nixon Memorial Park, Roper.
Mr. Nixon was born in Roper on May 16, 1939. He was the son of Essie Mae Jackson Dixon and the late Ernest Lee Nixon Sr. In 1960, he married Mary Chesson Nixon, who survives. He was self-employed as a farmer. He was a board member of Washington County Farm Service Agency. He was a member of Bethel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Roper, where he was a member of the trustee board and founder of the Male Chorus.
Survivors include four daughters, Elsie Mae Staton of Roper, Carol Sue Johnson of Plymouth, Mary Ann Johnson of Quinton, Va., and Shelia Littlejohn of Greensboro; one son, Joe Nathan Chesson of Kentucky; nine sisters, Cherry Clagon, Maggie Nixon, Lucinda Nixon, Maxine Burnette, Alberta Chesson, Diane Nixon and Carolyn Nixon, all of Roper, Erma Creekmore of Wyandanch, N.Y., and Mary Cabarrus of Creswell; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Puckett-Purkett Funeral Service, Roper.
