Mr. Wilton McLean Edwards, 82, of Chocowinity, died Sunday, September 30, 2007.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park with Masonic Rites, Washington Lodge #675.
Mr. Edwards, a native of Chocowinity, N.C., served in the U. S. Army in the European Theater during World War II and also was retired from the U. S. Naval Reserves, Seabees, MCB23. He was a life member of the Seabee Veterans of America, Island X-4, the V.F.W.- Washington Memorial Post #6088, and the D.A.V.- Chapter 48, all of Washington, N.C. and a member of the American Legion, Post 15, Washington, N.C.
Mr. Edwards was a retired civil service employee and member of the A.F.L - C. I. O., Operating Engineers, and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a member of the Washington Masonic Lodge No. 675, A.F. &A.M., the Scottish Rite Bodies at New Bern, the York Rite Bodies of Washington, N.C., the Sudan Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of New Bern, and the Beaufort County Shrine Club. He was also a member of Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church, where he was in the Adult Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred Slaughter Edwards; children, Betty Edwards Moreno of Texas, Billy Weston Edwards and wife, Linda, of New Bern; grandchildren, Curtis Owens of Texas, Kendall Shook of Chesapeake, VA; and Jonathan Edwards and Matthew Edwards, both of New Bern; great-grandson, Ethan Shook of Chesapeake, VA; and brothers, J. D. Edwards and Charlie Edwards, Sr. both of Chocowinity. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
