YEATESVILLE — Washington jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first quarter against Southside and kept running as the Pam Pack won the championship game of the Northside Tip-off Classic 68-21 on Thursday.
The combination of Samantha Smith, Harmony Simpkins and Haley Stowe proved to be too much for the Seahawks, who struggled on both ends of the court.
Jones said so far, she likes what she has seen.
Washington was running from the start as Smith’s five first quarter points helped the team take a 12-0 lead to start the game.
For the second game in a row, Simpkins and Stowe did a nice job in the backcourt. Both guards took turns scoring and running the offense.
While things ran rather smoothly for the Pack, the same could not be said for the Seahawks (1-1), who struggled.
Tamisha Cradle led the Seahawks with 11 points, mainly scoring on mid-range jumpers.
Southside will play its next game against Pamlico on Dec. 1, while the Pack will at Williamston on Nov. 27.
Pamlico 67, Northside 29
The Tip-off hosting Panthers may have been too hospitable on Thursday as they let the Pamlico Hurricanes blow by them 67-29 in the battle for third place.
Point guard Shanda Bell paced Pamlico with 14 points and several assists. Bell’s pin-point passes mainly ended up in the hands of Quiesha Miller and Kayla Blount, who each finished the game with 21 points.
Northside (0-2), which fields only two seniors, struggled throughout the game and failed to find its rhythm on offense.
The Hurricanes (1-1) opened up the game up with a 27-2 first quarter and coasted for the next three.
The Panthers tightened up a tad on defense in the second half, but their offense was still non existent. While Northside’s effort was there, they points weren’t.
Leathers said the tournament will help her team grow.
The Panthers will be back in action on Nov. 27 when they host will host Pamlico.
