HAMPTON, VA. — Helen J. Windley, 88, passed away December 25, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Windley, who was a civil court judge for the county of Hyde, NC and retired from the IRS in Newport News. She was the daughter of the late, Mr. and Mrs. Preston M. Jones of Swan Quarter, NC.
Helen was the Vice President of the Women’s Club of Swan Quarter. She was in charge of all distribution of OPA during WWII which included rations of all gasoline, food and clothing under the direction of A.L. Midgett. She moved to Newport News in 1943 and was a member and officer of the Peninsula Community Theatre. She was a member of the Riverside Hospital Auxillary, a member of the state and local Democratic Party and St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
She worked for Seven Oaks Realty Co. under C.D. West &Co. Helen retired from Drucker &Falk after 19 years in the property management field division, SouthHampton Investment Co.
She is survived by her son, Richard E. Windley and stepson, Jack L. Windley, Jr.; her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church by Rev. Bob Marston. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Interment will be take place at 2 p.m. on Friday at Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association, P.O.
