Anne Windley Buchanan Hazen

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. — Anne Windley Buchanan Hazen, died Thursday, December 20, 2007. She was born in Roper, North Carolina to Joseph Windley Buchanan and Lula Cahoon. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years, Edwin Phillips Hazen, and her brother, the Reverend Joseph Buchanan, Jr.
Anne was the secretary to the postmaster of the city of Newport News for many years. She was a long-time member of St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, and belonged to Circle #5. Anne was also a member of the James River Country Club and a patron of many organizations. She adored children and was the loving godmother of many who often called her “Granny Annie.”
Survivors include Mary Dail and her husband Rodney; Robert W. Weeks and his wife Susan Maxon; the Reverend Louise Tucker Parsons; Dan Phillips and his wife Alice; Mary Louise Bains and her husband Richard; Sara Porter Booker and her husband Marshall; Edwin Keith Phillips, Jr. and his wife Lucy; and many friends and relatives.
A service was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church. A reception followed the service. Interment was private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be sent to St Luke’s / St Anne’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 119, Roper, NC 27970.
