Mrs. Carolyn Gay Cox, 54, a resident of Roper, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at her home.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell, with pastor Dennis Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Cox was born Dec. 12, 1953, in Virginia Beach, Va.. She was the daughter of the late Woodrow W. and Anna Spruill Gay. Mrs. Cox was a homemaker. She was a member of Plymouth Pentecostal Holiness Church. She married Sammy S. Cox, who survives..
Survivors include two daughters, Christina C. McKinney and Melissa C. Reynolds, both of Plymouth; four sons, John T. Stevenson III of Belvidere, Matthew J. Stevenson of Elizabeth City, James C. Cox of Nashville and Phillip M. Cox of Roper; three sisters, Anna F. Furlough of Roper, Sarah E. Lilley of Plymouth and Patricia A. Miller of Edenton; three brothers, Robert J. Gay and Richard W. Gay Sr., both of Plymouth, and Michael H. Spruill of Washington; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Maitland Funeral Home and other times at the home.
