William A. “Sonny” Latham, Sr.

BURLINGTON - William A. “Sonny” Latham, Sr. passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2007 at his home following several years of failing health. He was born in Beaufort County, N.C. to the late Bryan and Flora Thomas Latham. He was the husband of Rebecca “Becky” Latham. Sonny served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War and later owned and operated Blackbeards Restaurant. He was of the Baptist faith and a former member of American Legion Post 63 and the Burlington Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of the home, a daughter Libby Embler and her husband Dave of Burlington, a son William A. “Al” Latham, Jr. and his wife Colleen of Cassville, Mo., grandchildren, Jason Modlin, Christopher Modlin, Kathleen Latham, Sarah Latham, a great grandchild Cadence Latham, step grandchildren, Geri Embler, Rebekah Embler, Victoria Embler, brothers, Del Latham and his wife Kay of Burlington, C.B. Latham of Pinetown, N.C. and James R. Latham and his wife Margaret of Jacksonville, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
There will be a memorial service 7 p.m. Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Brian Ayers.
The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home.
