Mr. George Reddick Roberson, Jr., age 79, a former resident of East Second Street, died Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Beaufort County Hospital in Washington.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2008 at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Dr. Michael Price and assisted by members of the Red Men’s Lodge. (If the weather is inclement, the service will be moved to Paul Funeral Home.)
Mr. Roberson was born in Martin County on July 6, 1928 and was the son of the late George Reddick Roberson, Sr. and Reba Manning Roberson. Mr. Roberson grew up on East Second street and worked with his father at Roberson’s Cash Store. He was loved by many of the storekeepers in downtown Washington and had lots of friends.
Mr. Roberson was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the Men’s Bible Class. He was a member of the Tau Tribe #18, Improved Order of Redmen.
Survivors include a brother, H. Clyde Roberson and his wife, Miriam, of Washington; two sisters, Opal Ross and her husband, Herb, of Tarboro, Nan R. Hawkins of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Roberson was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Guy O. Hawkins.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington, and other times at the home of his sister, Nan R. Hawkins, 125 Bath Circle, Smallwood, Washington.
