Mrs. Evelyn Gray Overton Wynns, 77, of 450 Va-Lee Beach Road, Colombia, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 at Chowan Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Soundside Missionary Baptist Church with Jeff Craptree officiating.
Mrs. Wynns was born Nov. 21, 1930 in Bertie County, daughter of the late Claude Edward and Lucy Farmer Overton. She was a homeaker and a member of Soundside Missionary Baptist Church and the WMU. She taught Sunday School, led the Acteens, coached softball for the Tyrrell County Youth League and ran the M &M’s Youth Center for two years.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Joseph B. Wynns Sr. of Columbia; two daughters, Luanne W. Lentz and Claudia Michelle Wynns, both of Winston-Salem; three sons, Joseph B. Wynns Jr. of Buies Creek, James Michael Wynns of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jonathan Mark Wynns of Atlanta; one brother, Henry Hal Overton of Franklin, Va.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Monday at Southside Missionary Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Tyrrell County Emergency Medical Services or the Tyrrell County Volunteer Fire Department.
Walker Funeral Home of Windsor is serving the Wynns family.
