Mr. Nathan Herman Coward, age 83, a resident of 409 Brick Kiln Road, Washington, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 29, 2008 at Pinewood Cemetery, Greenville, conducted by Dr. Donald Robeiro.
Mr. Coward was born in Craven County on October 5, 1924. He was the son of the late Herman Coward and Bluma Mae Whitford Coward. Mr. Coward served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Coward was a member of the Chocowinity United Methodist Church.
Mr. Coward was married to the former Lossie Rue Jones, who preceded him in death, November 3, 1978. On November 17, 1979, he married the former Mary Adams, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Pat Rowe and her husband, Tommy of Chocowinity; a step daughter, Lou W. Fuller of Washington; six grandchildren, Robert Corey and wife, Joyce of New Bern, Scott Corey and wife, Ellen of New Bern, Angie Marslender of Chocowinity, Melinda Elks of Vanceboro, Chad Corey of New Bern, Audrey Smith and husband, Gregory of Vanceboro; one step granddaughter, Tracy Gates and husband, Matt of Grimesland and 13 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his first wife. Mr. Coward was preceded in death by a son, Nathan Wayne Coward; a daughter, Linda C. Corey; a great grandchild, Baleigh Dawn Marslender; two brothers, Heber Coward and Leora Coward; two sisters, Ethel Gray Coward and Rosa Jones and a step granddaughter, Beth Fuller.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home.
