Mrs. Elizabeth Ruth Stevens Sawyer, 84, of 353 Wright’s Creek Road, Belhaven, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Belhaven, with Dean Fulford Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Beach Community Cemetery at Ryder Hill.
Timothy Sawyer, Bryan Sawyer, Jonathan Sawyer, Bobby Furman, Larry Huffman and Walter Murl Johnson will serve as pallbearers. Anthony Furman will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Mrs. Sawyer was born in Petersburg, Va., on July 24, 1923. She was the daughter of the late John Harry and Hester Penelope Grammar Stevens. She was married to Ira Bonner Sawyer, who preceded her in death Dec. 19, 2001. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Pamlico Beach Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Donald Furman of Blounts Creek, Claudette Kelly, William Seth Sawyer, Bonner Sawyer and Teresa Huffman, all of Belhaven; one sister, Virginia Flemming of Washington; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Nelson Furman; one brother, John Harry Stevens; one sister, Naomi Stevens and one granddaughter, Jessica Huffman.
The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home, Belhaven, and other times at the home.
