Leona Cahoon Hardison, 86, long time resident of Engelhard, and in more recent years a resident of Cross Creek Health Care Center in Swan Quarter, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Cross Creek.
Born in Engelhard, July 15, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Closs E. and Sunie Bell Williams Cahoon. She was married to the late Beverly Oren Hardison who died in 1957. She spent her working years as a secretary with Engelhard Seafood, in sales at the former Engelhard Fabric Shop and later as manager of the former Thel’s Clothing Store in Engelhard. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the family plot in Fulford Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Troy Hodges, Ben Cahoon, Eric Cahoon, Daniel Williams, Billy Mann and Jason Cutrell.
Surviving are a son, Jerry Hardison of Engelhard; a daughter, Janice H. Wyant of Engelhard; a brother, Lancy Cahoon of Pinetown; grandchildren, Michael Hardison, Renee Fisher and Charles Wyant all of Engelhard, Ike Wyant of Kill Devil Hills; great-grandchildren, DeAnna and Thomas Fisher; a great-great-grandchild, Regan Fisher; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, J. B. Cahoon and Henry Cahoon; sisters, Mildred Hodges and Eris Dail Williams.
The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service on Thursday evening, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
