Mrs. Hazel Whealton Smith, age 83, a former resident of Old Pamlico Beach Road, Belhaven, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Ridgeland Nursing Center in Ridgeland, S.C.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Derik Davis.
Mrs. Smith was born in Beaufort County on July 31, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Dorman Alexander Whealton and Elizabeth Stowe Whealton. Mrs. Smith was a retired department store clerk. She was a member of the Pamlico Beach Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith moved to Ridgeland in 2003.
Mrs. Smith was married to Darwin M. Smith, who preceded her in death in 1978.
Survivors include three sons, Glenn M. Smith of Savannah, GA, Darwin Wayne Smith of Dallas, TX, Norman Earl Smith of Pamlico Beach; seven grandchildren including two beloved grandsons, Steven and David Smith; 10 great grandchildren and a beloved niece, Janice Foster of Washington.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren A Whealton and Dorman A. Whealton, Jr.; and six sisters, Thelma Davis, Nora Taylor, Alberta Prescott, Edna Jackson, Minnie Sellers, and Margaret English.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Paul Funeral Home.
