Eli David “E.D.” Harrison

BEAR GRASS, N.C. — Eli David “E.D.” Harrison passed away March 16, 2008 in Britthaven of Washington.
E.D. was born to Ephraim C. and Maggie Wynne Harrison on October 24, 1927. On August 4, 1952, he married Nellie Mizzell, who survives.
E.D. served his country in the Navy during World War II and in the Army he was stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from the VOA site A on September 3, 1994 with 33 years of service to the government.
E.D. was a member of Rose of Sharon Free Will Baptist Church where over the years he served as Deacon, choir member and on the committee for the Centennial anniversary of the church in 1996. He also wrote the history of Rose of Sharon which was published in 1976.
Through his hobbies he has helped many families in the surrounding communities with his love and knowledge of genealogy. He was able to build and repair clocks, he was particularly proud of his Grandfather’s clocks.
He was a charter member of the Bear Grass Volunteer Fire Department. E.D. received several awards for his work with the Boy Scouts of America because of his activities with the Bear Grass troops.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Harrison and 3 sisters, Peggy, Nancy and Diane Harrison.
He was a dedicated and devoted son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
In addition to his wife, Nellie, he is survived by four sons, David and wife Linda, of Raleigh, James and wife Oneda, of Concord, Richard and fiance/ Anne Massey, of Greenville, Paul and wife Kay, of Bear Grass. Seven grandchildren, Jonathan and Jennifer Harrison of Raleigh, Heather and Bradley Harrison of Concord, Brennon and Chelsea Harrison of Greenville and Adam Harrison of Bear Grass. One Great Grandchild, Griffin Crompton of Concord. Brothers, Levi and wife Jenny of New Bern and Billie and wife Susan of Bear Grass.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rose of Sharon FWB Church, 8000 Bear Grass Road. Funeral Services will be conducted by Rev. Bryant Hines at the church on Wednesday, March 19 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial Gardens.
