Mrs. Evelyn Tettterton Sanford, age 86, a resident of 308 Smaw Road, Washington, died Monday, March 31, 2008.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington conducted by the Rev. James Greene.
The following will serve as honorary pallbearers: Jerry Woolard, Don Berry, Jim Hatcher, Curtis Atkins, Jim Kea, Steve Peele, and Jerry Cole.
Mrs. Sanford was born in Beaufort County on September 28, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Charles Bonner Tetterton and Edith Gurkins Tetterton Bell. Mrs. Sanford was a homemaker. She was a charter member of the Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church.
On March 24, 1935, Mrs. Sanford married Charles Simuel Sanford, who preceded her in death, June 28, 1973. While her husband served in the Army, Mrs. Sanford was a member of the Army Women’s Auxiliary and continued to support the auxiliary after her husband’s retirement.
Mrs. Sanford is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Elizabeth “Lib” Lewis and her husband, Ted of Washington, Brenda Faye Eberhardt and her husband, George of Springfield, Missouri, Norma Jean “Cammie Jo” Philastre and her husband, Phil of Kingwood, Texas; two sisters, Erma Cutler Alligood of Creswell, Della Peele Lassiter of Washington; five grandchildren, Lee Smith and his wife, Evelyn, Tracey Smith and her husband, Ed, Sanford Charles Philastre and his wife, Martha, Debra Sunderwirth, Diane Eberhardt; five great grandchildren, Brad Smith, Amber Smith, Devin Sunderwirth, Jonathan Sunderwirth and Preston Sunderwirth and three great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, a sister, Helen Singleton and a brother, Charles Bonner “C.B” Tetterton, Jr, preceded Mrs. Sanford in death.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home of her daughter, Lib Lewis, 310 Smaw Road, Washington.
