Mrs. Elsie Barnes Phelps, 93, of Creswell, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Chowan Hospital, Edenton.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Mount Tabor Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Craig Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born May 28, 1914, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Cassandra Overton Barnes, and was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce H. Phelps; daughter, Yvonne Gray Phelps; sister, Statha Barnes; brothers, Edmond Barnes and Hulene Barnes. Mrs. Phelps was a homemaker and member of Mount Tabor Free Will Baptist Church.
Her family includes her daughter, Faye McDonald and husband Brian of Chester, Va.; sons, Don Phelps and wife Ernestine of Virginia Beach, Va., and Willis Phelps and wife Kay of Summerfield, N.C.; sister Doris B. Simmons of Creswell, N.C.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 15, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Tabor Free Will Baptist Church.
Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
