YEATESVILLE — Northside gave Perquimans a double dose of trouble Friday night.
The visiting Pirates (4-7, 2-6) couldn’t touch Panthers’ starting pitcher Amanda Beirne. And they had just as much difficulty keeping the Panthers’ hitters off base.
Save for a fifth inning triple by Pirates’ shortstop Jordan Copeland, Beirne pitched a perfect game, surrendering just one hit and striking out 11 to lead the Lady Panthers to an 11-0 victory in five innings.
Beirne lost her bid for a fourth career perfect game with two outs remaining in the game.
While Beirne stifled Perquimans’ offensive attack, Pirates’ starting pitcher Kylli Lassiter wasn’t as fortunate.
The Panthers lit up the scoreboard Friday night with 11 runs on 11 hits to break out of a recent scoring slump.
Northside started its scoring barrage in the opening inning as they scored a pair of runs. After leading off the inning with an infield single, Amanda Daw came around to score on an RBI triple by Casey Alligood. One batter later, the Panthers went ahead 2-0 on an RBI sacrifice fly by Whitney Lewis.
The Panthers (9-7, 5-3) stretched their lead out with four more runs in the second inning. Lalee Alligood and Tiffany Jackson led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Alligood and Jackson both came around to score on a sacrifice bunts by Kassie Sassnett and Daw, both of whom reached on errors. Moments later, Sassnett scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0. Northside added one more run in the second as Daw scored on an RBI double by Casey Alligood.
Northside blew the game wide-open with four more runs in the third inning. Lauren Rodriguez, started the third with a single, and was erased on a groundout by Lalee Alligood. Jackson and Heather Ussery followed with singes to load the bases. Lalee Alligood came around to score on a wild pitch, and Jackson and Ussery came home an RBI single by Daw. The Panthers made it 10-0, as Beirne plated Daw with an RBI single.
Northside’s final run came in the fourth as Rodriguez led off the inning with a double and scored on an RBI groundout by Cameron Waters.
Northside will return to action Tuesday when they host Camden at 6 p.m.
