Mrs. Charlotte S. Whitehurst, 84, formerly of Mimosa Road, Portsmouth, Va., died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at her son’s home in Washington.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. C.C. Blythe. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.
Mrs. Whitehurst was born Nov. 1, 1923, in Portsmouth. Her parents were the late Jacob H.G. and Loddie Story Spindler. She was the widow of Orville L. Whitehurst Sr. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Esther Chapter no. 37 O.E.S., V.F.W. Auxiliary no. 993. She was past president of District 2 Ladies V.F.W. Auxiliary, served as the 1955 State Department president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Virginia. She was past president of Cedar Point Garden Club and past president of the Portsmouth Garden Club Council. She was a member of the Doll and Bear Study Club of Tidewater, the Norfolk Doll Club and the Collinswood Miniature Club.
Survivors include two sons, Orville L. Whitehurst Jr. of Lehigh, Fla., and Lloyd G. Whitehurst of Washington; a sister, Lorraine Johnson of Chesapeake; a brother, George L. “Buddy” Spindler, of Chesapeake; two grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. today at Sturtevant Funeral Home.
