Mrs. Martha Viola Modlin Askew, age 84, a resident of 23676 N.C. Highway 32 North, Plymouth, went home to be with her Lord, Friday, April 18, 2008.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday, April 21, 2008 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, conducted by Thelbert Leggett and Dalton Finch. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens, Plymouth.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Durwood Respass, Glenn Askew, Ronnie Black, Nolan Respess, Ray Respess, Eric Bell and Casey Bell.
Mrs. Askew was born in Pinetown on October 31, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Sylvester Modlin and Ethel Latham Modlin. Mrs. Askew was a homemaker and farmer. She was a member of the Acre Chapel Christian Church and an active member of the No O.L.F. organization. Mrs. Askew was “a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. She will be missed.”
On September 8, 1939, Mrs. Askew married Chester R. Askew, who preceded her in death, November 21, 1976.
Survivors include her children, Glenda Askew Jackson of Pantego, Julia Askew Russ and her husband, Travis of Plymouth, Phyllis Askew Jones and her husband, Billy of Washington, Ronnie Keith Askew of the home, Teresa Askew Osborne and her husband, Greg of Washington; daughter-in-law, Louise Eborn Askew of Plymouth; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Askew was preceded in death by a son, Chester R. Askew, Jr.; three brothers, and three sisters.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home, 23676 N.C. Hwy 32 North, Plymouth.
