A man was shot Thursday on the corner of West Seventh Street and North Market Street and the perpetrator is at large.
Robert Rafael Clark, 19, of West Eighth Street, Washington, suffered a wound to a lower part of one leg Thursday afternoon, according to Washington Police Lt. William Chrismon.
At 5:37 p.m. Thursday, Washington Police Department officers responded to the area of Seventh Street and North Market Street after being informed that there had been a shooting there.
Upon arrival, the officers found no injured people in the area, according to Chrismon.
Shortly after, two patients with injuries related to the incident were reportedly being treated at the Beaufort County Hospital emergency room, according to the police department.
Shell casings were found in the road at the corner.
Chrismon said the second person involved in the incident did not suffer a gunshot wound. The police department would not identify this victim, who was treated for an injury to his wrist resulting from a fall to the ground.
The spot where the incident occurred is a familiar one to law-enforcement officers. Crowds are often seen on the corner of West Seventh and North Market Street throughout days and nights.
The corner is no stranger to criminal behavior.
On Feb. 19, 2007, Patricia Brooks Clark of Washington was murdered by Kam Montrell Parker, who pleaded guilty to the murder in April. Parker killed Clark while she was sitting in her vehicle at the same corner where Thursday’s shooting occurred.
Chrismon said that anyone with any information about the Thursday shooting incident should contact Beaufort County Crime Stoppers at (252) 974-6400 or Washington Police Department detective Jerry Davis at (252) 946-1444.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to the police department.
