Mary Cherry Olmsted-Strickland

GOLDSBORO - Mary Cherry Olmsted-Strickland, 75, of 113 Sheridan Road, died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Mary was born in Beaufort County on May 4, 1933 to the late Churchill Cherry and Violet Perry Cherry. She had retired as a claims representative with the Social Security Administration. Following retirement, she drove a bus and worked as a substitute teacher for Wayne County Public Schools. Mary attended Manly Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Watkins officiating. Entombment will be at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mary is survived by her husband, Carroll M. Strickland, Sr.; her sons, Michael G. Olmsted and wife, Cheryl of Greenville, Dwight L. Olmsted and wife, Vikki of Goldsboro and David L. Olmsted and wife, Sonya of Goldsboro; her brothers, Edward Cherry and wife, Frocine of Washington and James Cherry and wife, Marge of Washington; and five grandchildren, Michael Wayne Olmsted, Josh Olmsted, Morgan Olmsted, Cody Olmsted, and Nikki Olmsted. She is also survived by her step-daughters, Teva C. Justice of Kenly and Tammy Booth of Goldsboro; and her step-son, Carroll Strickland Jr. of Goldsboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Gary W. Olmsted; her step-son, Michael Todd Strickland; and her first husband, Bob G. Olmsted.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home.
