Mrs. Mildred Morris Walker

Mrs. Mildred Morris Walker, 85, of Columbia, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Chowan Hospital, Edenton.
Born in Tyrrell County, she was the daughter of the late William Dallas and Mary Sawyer Morris and was preceded in death by her husband, Weston L. Walker; daughter, Peggy W. Davenport; infant son Walker and brother, William S. Morris. Mrs. Walker was a retired office manager with Royster-Clark and former owner of Walker Farmers Exchange and Walker Egg Farm. She was a member of Albemarle Church of Christ, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Children’s Choir Director, Church Treasurer, Sunday School Secretary and Adult Choir member. She was a member of the Order Of The Eastern Star, Chapter 281 for 50 years, a past worthy matron and Grand Representative of New Brunswick in North Carolina. She was a member of the Scuppernong Community Development and served as treasurer for many years.
Her family includes her daughter, Sandra K. Walker and husband Kenny of Columbia, N.C.; son-in-law, Bertram L. Davenport of Columbia, N.C.; grandchildren, Dorinda D. Spruill and husband Carl, Craig R. Davenport and wife Debbie; great-grandchildren, Catie, Jefferson and Madison.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Albemarle Church of Christ with Leon Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Albemarle Church of Christ or a charity of choice. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
