Mrs. Maxine Curry Sandy

Mrs. Maxine Curry Sandy, 78, of 139 Honey Pod Farm Road, Washington, NC, died Monday, May 12, 2008 at the home of her daughter, Kathleen Warner in Roswell, GA.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church of Washington, NC with The Rev. Darryl Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Dr. Radford Pugh, Dr. Fred Howdy, Dr. David Howdy, Mr. Edward Smith, Mr. Wayne Broome, Dr. Marshall Taylor, Dr. Carney Taylor, Dr. Dave Tayloe, Mr. Harvey Dixon and Mr. Dale Brown will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC and other times at the home.
Mrs. Sandy was born December 30, 1929 in Dravosburg, PA. She was the daughter of the late George Arnold Curry and Hazel Marie Wisser Curry. She was the loving wife of Dr. Robert Sandy for 56 years, who survives. Mrs. Sandy was a graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA. She was a registered nurse and worked with Dr. Jonas Salk. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a former Sunday School and kindergarten teacher and also worked in the church kitchen. Maxine took great pleasure in pursuing her favorite hobbies; a love of art, painting, and cooking.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sandy is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Warner and husband, Harvey of Roswell, GA; two sons, Robert E. Sandy, II and wife, Tina of Raleigh, NC, and Joseph A. Sandy and wife, Sally of Morganton, NC; one sister, Dianne C. Winfield and husband, Dr. Grey Winfield of Hickory, NC; and seven grandchildren, Lauren and Anna Warner, Timothy, Hannah and Robert Sandy, III, and Joey and Patrick Sandy.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and two brothers, Garry D. Curry and Arnold C. Curry.
