Clayton crowned

On Friday night at the 2008 Engelhard Seafood Festival

Engelhard — Kimberly Noel Clayton was crowned 2008 Engelhard Seafood Festival Queen on Friday night. She was sponsored by the Williams Seafood Company of Engelhard.
Clayton was also the winner of the festival’s Tennis Shoe Decorating Contest. Miss Clayton won a $500 scholarship that was donated by the Engelhard Development Corporation and the East Carolina Bank. She received a dozen red roses from Engelhard Florist and a trophy.
The first runner-up was Jessie McCann. She was sponsored by Gibbs’ Enterprises of Engelhard.
The second runner-up was Deanna Gibbs. She was also voted Miss Congeniality. She was sponsored by Dark Woods Wildlife Management.
The other contestants and sponsors were: Kalisha McCoy, Hotel Engelhard; Ketra Selby, RS Spencer Inc.; Breatte Garrison, Gibbs’ Store; Christen Gibbs, Blacklands Truck; and Ashley Hardy, Mt. Pilgrim Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ).
Chris Gibbs served as master of ceremonies for the pageant. The following judges served: Courtney Gallop, owner of Gallop Funeral Home in Nags Head; Belinda Jones with the Lake Landing Reality Company; and Rhett White, manager of the Town of Columbia.
The annual Blessing of the Fleet was also held on Friday night. The program was held at Big Trout Marina. The service was led by pastors Charles Reber and Scott Sukeforth. Megan Shaw served as the mistress of ceremonies. Special music was provided by the Believers Trio from Swan Quarter.
The theme for the boat decorating contest was “The Liveliest Catch.” The “Jennifer G,” captained by Michael Sadler, won the boat decorating contest. The runner-up was “Logan’s Catch,” captained by Parker Williams.
