Doris Lilley Smithwick, 84, of 106 Riverside Campground Road, the Ponzer community, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at her home.
Born in Bath, N. C. on February 12, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Byard and Bessie Boyd Lilley. She was married to William T. “Bill” Smithwick on June 5, 1942. She and her husband owned and operated Riverside Campground through the years. They also provided the building where the Riverside Gospel Sing has been held for more than 20 years. They have been instrumental in hosting 4-H activities and many youth activities. She was a member of Mount Olive Church of Christ where she has been faithful for many years.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Riverside Campground Convention Center. Steve Bryan, a family friend, will officiate and burial will follow in the Smithwick Family Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Vince Lilley, Ron Lilley, Greg Lilley, Ceci W. Lilley, Larry Boyd and Doug Armstrong.
Her survivors include her husband of almost 66 years; a son, Billy H. Smithwick and wife, Ellan of Richmond, Va.; two daughters, Thomasina S. Baynor and husband, “Junior” and Regina S. Woolard and husband, Wayne all of the Ponzer Community; a sister, Sarah L. Overgaard of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Lila Lilley of Bath; grandchildren, Carr Baynor and wife, Lee, Shannon Braxton and husband, Richie, Billie Jo Darden and husband, Tyler, Bobby Smithwick, Brandi Mobley and husband “Bo”, Brooke Dunbar and husband, Chuck, Brett Woolard and wife, Kayla; great-grandchildren, Dalton, Macy, Cole and Tanner Baynor, Ann Tyler, Lilley Caroline and J. T. Darden, Aaron and Kennedy Smithwick, Ethan and Dustin Mobley, Nathan and Natalie Dunbar; 8 nephews and 5 nieces.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Mrs. Smithwick’s caregivers including Dessie Johnson, Clementine Jones and Donna Renwick, as well as Jaime Spencer and Lorra Blount, nurses with Community Homecare and Hospice.

The body will lie in state at the convention center during the hour prior to the funeral on Monday morning.
