Mrs. Virginia Dare Alligood

Mrs. Virginia Dare Alligood, age 88, a former resident of 256 Homeplace Road, Washington, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Britthaven of Washington.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, conducted by Mike Caton. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
The Elders and Deacons of Rosemary Church of Christ will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Alligood was born in Beaufort County on February 11, 1920. She was the daughter of the late William Henry Alligood and Sallie Lilly Alligood. Mrs. Alligood was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. She was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ and former member of the Rosemary Church of Christ Ladies Aide.
On December 20, 1941, she married Benjamin Franklin Alligood, who preceded her in death, August 25, 2001.
Survivors include her daughter, Hilda Alligood Lane and her husband, Troy Lee Lane of Washington; her son, Donald Lee Alligood and his wife, Sandra Chrismon Alligood of Washington; two grandsons, Timothy Lee Lane and Jonathan Ray Lane; a granddaughter, Donna Alligood Digby and her husband, Scott Digby; two great-granddaughters, Abby Rae Lane and Gwendolyn Dare Digby and one sister, Lucille Alligood Baker of Washington.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Alligood was preceded in death by four brothers, Vernon Alligood, Leslie Alligood, Bennie Alligood and Herman Lee Alligood; four sisters, Elsie Woolard, Ethel Wallace, Rachel Foreman and Gladys Waters and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Alligood had resided at Britthaven of Washington for the past four months. Her family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Young, Dr. Teixeira, and the staff in the Alzheimers unit of Britthaven Nursing Home for their care and compassion over the last four months.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home of her daughter, Hilda Lane, 232 Homeplace Road, Washington.
