Chester Furlough

Mr. Chester Furlough, age 82, our loved one and friend, a resident of 537 Barwick Drive, Washington, NC went home to be with the Lord on Monday June 9, 2008.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday June 12, 2008 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Washington, officiated by Steve Hill and Ray West. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Mr. Furlough’s grandchildren along with Mr. Kenny Edwards and Mr. Clint Sorenson will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be: Charles Boahn, Jack Clayton, Maxie Gavin, Kenneth Holland, Norwood Houston, Jim Joyner, Mark Lilley, Donald Wallace, Russell Waters, Max Wilkerson, Cedric Woolard, Emmett Powell, Michael Price, Spencer Woolard, Harold Alligood, Mike Caton, Ben Grant, Bobby Whitley and Ted Clayton.
Mr. Furlough was born June 1, 1926, son of the late Jodie Agar and Hulda Clifton Furlough. He attended Washington County Schools. He served his country in the US Army as a World War II Veteran where he served in the South Pacific Theater. On December 24, 1950, he married the former Iris Rose. Mr. Furlough was employed with the NC Department of Transportation for 33 years. He and William Henry Silverthorne owned F&S Paving for 19 years. Mr. Furlough was a lifelong worker in the church and he was a member of First Church of Christ. He formerly served on the Board as a Deacon of Rosemary Church of Christ for 20 years and on the Board of Open Door Christian Ministries for 8 years. He was also a member of the Beaufort County Grange and VFW.
In addition to his wife, Iris of the home, he is survived by his children: Chris W. Furlough and his wife, Nancy; Dennis W. Furlough and his wife, Pam all of Washington; and Glenda R. Furlough of the home; his sister, Vivian Holten of Creswell; his grandchildren: Lauren O. Furlough, Jessica M. Furlough, Amy Furlough Edwards, C. Leigh Furlough, Cody W. Furlough and Caleb J. Furlough; and a special cousin, Myra Marriner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Hubert Ray Furlough.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home.
