Mr. Bennie Blount Sr. of 107 Bateman St., Plymouth, died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Washington County Hospital in Plymouth.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Second Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Plymouth, with the Rev. Hubert Judon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Blount was born in Washington County on Sept. 25, 1923. He was the son of the late James Demus Blount and Sally Thomas Blount. He served in the Army during World War II. He was married to Alverta Williams Blount, who preceded him in death. He had worked as a machine operator with Georgia Pacific. He was a member of Second Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Plymouth.
Survivors include 15 children, Constance B. Collins, Juanita B. Bond, Gloria J. Blount, Bennie Blount Jr., Berkley Mack Blount, Timothy Blount, Tony Blount, Ricky Blount, Charlotte B. Moore, Marcia B. Dance, Odessa B. Moore and Scottie Ray Blount, all of Plymouth, Alpheua Blount of Portsmouth, Va., and Vincent Blount and Diane Blount, both of Raleigh; one brother, Garfield Blount Sr. of Plymouth; 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Annie Mae Major, Alberta Jordan and Martha Jane McNair and four brothers, James Demus Blount, John Robert Blount, Leander Blount and Willie Blount.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Second Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Plymouth.
