Summer break is just a few days old and those chilly fall nights are a long ways off, but the Pam Pack’s pursuit of a NCHSAA Class-3A football title is already under way.
On Wednesday evening, Washington took part in its first team competition of the 2008 football season as it competed in a 7-on-7 passing league in New Bern.
The 7-on-7 leagues are designed for teams to work on all facets of the passing game, including route running, reading coverage, passing accuracy and timing between quarterback and receivers. It also gives the defensive secondary and linebackers a chance to work on their pass coverage and defensive packages.
Wednesday night’s passing league was the first of five leagues that Washington will participate in. They will also take part in a 7-on-7 tournament in Chapel Hill on July 19. The leagues and tournaments are an effective way for the players to prepare for the season says Pam Pack quarterback Austin Thompson.
The receivers also enjoy the summer competitions.
From a coaching stand point, the games are very useful.
As the Pam Pack walked off the field Wednesday evening after competing against New Bern, Jones Senior, and Swansboro, the Pam Pack were feeling pretty good about their first effort of the season.
Coach Sawyer was also happy after getting a first look at his 2008 squad.
