Evelyn Spencer Carter, 82, of 271 Church Street, Swan Quarter, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Washington County Hospital in Plymouth.
Born in Hyde County, June 18, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Archie L. and Sallie Patrick Spencer. She was married to Lee Thomas Carter who preceded her in death. She graduated from the former East Hyde School and spent her working years with the cafeteria at Mattamuskeet School and retired from the Hyde County Schools.
She was a member of the Swan Quarter Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the family plot in Soule Cemetery.
Steve Bryan and Rev. Al Markuson will officiate.
Surviving are a son, Van Carter and wife, Kay of Plymouth; a daughter, Sallie M. Carter of the home; two sisters, Sennie Shaw and Jay Collins both of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Jennie Bowen and husband, Dennis, Norwood Webster and wife, Katie and Christine Muthler and husband, Bryan; great-grandchildren, Jessalyn Bowen and Nate Muthler.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Virginia Williams, Byron Spencer, Bill Thomas Spencer and Jimmie Spencer.
The family will receive friends on Friday between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter and other times at the home on Church Street.
