Mrs. Hattie Gibbs Ebron, 85, of 411 Keyesville Road, Washington, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at the home of her daughter, 106 Frederick Road, Chocowinity.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Howard Hill Free Will Baptist Church, Washington, with Elder James A. Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington.
Mrs. Ebron was born in Beaufort County on Aug. 22, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Sam and Sarah Wilkins Gibbs. She attended the Beaufort County Schools. She was married to John Henry Ebron, who preceded her in death. She had been employed with Hamilton Beach Co., Washington. She was a lifelong member of Howard Hill Free Will Baptist Church, Washington, where she served as superintendent of the Sunday school, president of senior choir, member of home mission and Mother of the church.
Survivors include three daughters, Carrie Ebron Brown of Norfolk, Va., Virginia Ebron of Williamston and Edna Ebron Reddick of Chocowinity; four sons, John Ebron Jr. of Norfolk, Va., Lonnie Ebron of Philadelphia, Pa., and James Ebron and Cecil Ebron, both of Washington; one sister, Annie Cobbs of Washington; 24 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ann Wilson and three sons, Pearlie Ebron, Jesse Earl Ebron and Moses Ebron.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8 p.m. at Howard Hill Free Will Baptist Church, Washington, and other times at the home.
