Mrs. Olive Beckwith Selby, 97, a resident of Cross Creek Health Care Center and formerly of the Slocomb community of Engelhard, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Wallace Selby officiating. Burial will follow in Cox Cemetery.
Mrs. Selby was born in Hyde County on April 21, 1911. She was the daughter of the late Dave and Katie W. Beckwith. She attended the Hyde County Schools. She was married to Genie Selby, who preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Percy Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), where she served on the Mother board.
Survivors include five sons, Briddie Selby and Larry Selby, both of Engelhard, Eugene Selby and Gregory Selby, both of Chesapeake, Va., and Wallace Selby of Norfolk, Va.; three daughters, Thelma Johnson of Queens, N.Y., Emma D. Johnson of Engelhard and Goldie S. Talton of Hampton, Va.; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; six great-great-great-grandchildren and seven stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lydia and 10 siblings.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Emma D. Johnson, 5245 Nebraska Road, Engelhard.
A walk-in visitation will be held today from 1-7 p.m. at Whitfield &Whitley Funeral Home, Washington.
