Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Todd Everette, Greg Everette, Woody Everette, Guy Whitaker, Jay Dupree, and Rabon Tripp will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Chauncey was born February 10, 1924, daughter of the late Tom and Rosetta Clark Mercer. In April of 1941, she married Woodrow Everette, and with her love and support, he established a successful trucking business. During their 54 years of marriage, she was always a loving devoted wife. Her life’s work centered around God, husband, and children. He preceded her in death in October of 1995. In December of 1999, she married George F. Chauncey of Burlington, NC, who preceded her in death in May of 2008. She was a member of Ephesus Free Will Baptist Church.
Her sweet smile and loving heart extended beyond family to all who knew her. Whether it was a friend in need after a hurricane, or a poor man needing money for food, she gave unselfishly and quietly, seeking no praise from others. She even made homemade soup for her favorite doctor and his nurses. “It is more blessed to give than receive” and “Love thy neighbor as thyself” truly exemplified her life. She will be sorely missed by family and friends.
Her surviving family include two daughters, Rita Everette Bradley and husband Cecil of Washington, NC, Carol Everette Hartman and husband John of Washington, NC, two sons, Steve Everette and fianc/e Pam Ginn of Greenville, Larry Everette of Greenville, NC, grandchildren include Todd Everette and Greg Everette of Greenville, NC, Denise Everette and Heather Radcliff of Washington, NC, Woody Everette of Poplar Branch, NC, Annie Beth Donahue of Indian Trail, NC, and Laura Rose Hartman of Raleigh, NC, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and a special nephew, who was like a little brother, Gene Whichard of Lusby, MD, a brother-in-law, Zeno Everette and wife Carol of Vanceboro, NC, sister-in-law, Genet Lilley of Greenville, NC and many other nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two step-daughters of Burlington, NC, Judy Dickey and Annette Dickey and husband Kenny, and four step-grandchildren along with their families. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtle Long and Marion Payne and four brothers, Garfield, Ben, Harold and Curtis.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home of her daughter Rita Bradley, 310 Lawson Rd. Smallwood, Washington, NC 27889.
