Mr. Cornelius Credle Sr., 70, of 683 Palm St., Belhaven died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at Beaufort County Hospital in Washington.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Saint James Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Elder Barry James officiating. Burial will follow in Northside Cemetery.
Mr. Credle was born in Hyde County on March 14, 1938. He was the son of the late Harvey and Mary L.W. Credle. He attended the Beaufort County Schools. He was married to Ada “Margie” Credle, who preceded him in death July 2, 2004. He was employed as a commercial fishermen prior to declining health.
Survivors include one daughter, Gregorie Hodges of Belhaven; four sons, Robert Credle, Freddie Credle and Cornelius Credle Jr., all of Belhaven, and Jimmie Blount of Manhattan, N.Y.; 10 sisters, Alice Moore, Lydia Freeman, Mary Butcher and Mary Credle, all of Maryland, Vera Washington, Esther Clark and Joyce Russell, all of Scranton and Sandra Coviel, Hilda Gregory and Brenda Cooper, all of New Jersey; three brothers, Branch Credle and Raymond Credle, both of Belhaven, and Paul Slade of Scranton; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
A walk-in visitation will be held today from 1-7 p.m. at Whitfield &Whitley Funeral Home, Washington.
